The CAS Public Star Parties take place
at Lock Four Park, in Gallatin (see map below). Go south 1 mile from the
intersection of Lock Four and Peach Valley Roads and you will enter a clearing
(model airplane field and runway). Continue straight till you cross the field,
and turn right to park in the area provided. If it is dark, please dim your
lights as you approach the silo; we will be observing close by.
You can use www.mapquest.com
to acquire detailed maps/directions from your location. Use "Lock 4
Road in Gallatin" as the destination.

The Cumberland Astronomical Society
meets from 7 to 8:30 PM on the third Thursday of each month in the Math and
Science building (labeled "15" on the map) on the campus of Volunteer
State Community College. The public is
always welcome.

Many Tennessee State Parks have fields
highly suitable for astronomy/telescope fields. In the story "Astronomy
in the Parks," Rocky Alvey, superintendent
of Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory in Nashville, poses basic astronomy questions he
says everyone should know the answer to like "Why do we have
seasons?" and points out what great resources parks can be for learning
more about astronomy. In fact, programs on Astronomy in the Parks are set for
Fall Creek Falls State Park in Pikeville during the summer months June to
August. Keep an eye out for announced
dates. http://www.state.tn.us/environment/parks/FallCreekFalls/
